"I'LL MAKE THE RECORD A BIT MORE DIFFICULT TO BREAK FOR FUTURE PLAYERS" -LIONEL MESSI

He made the statement amidst smiles. But really, he is free to aim higher. Lionel Messi's incredible feat last night during his club's game with Real Madrid is still one of the most talked about football news. A quick one, he broke Gerd Muller's goalscoring record and set a new all time world record.

Messi has now netted a total of 86 goals in 66 games for club/country in 2012 (so far). Müller scored 85 in 60 games in 1972.

Speaking on his new achievement, the Argentine said "I'll try to score more this year to make the record a bit more difficult to break for future players"

He continued, "It was more you, the press, who talked about Muller's record. It's broken now, so you shouldn't talk about it anymore... (smiles)".
