REACTIONS TRAIL BASKETMOUTH'S RAPE JOKE
Reactions have continued to trail a controversial post (which centres on rape) on ace comedian, Basketmouth's facebook page. Here's an email by Greg Ighodaro on the matter+ other reactions and his reply.
"I am highly disappointed in Nigerian foremost comedian Basket mouth aka
"Bright Okpocha with the very "foolish joke" he cracked on his Facebook
wall, making RAPE the highpoint of his Joke. The joke started with a comparison of African girls and while girls on a date where he diminished the African Woman to nothing if taken on a date. Would your joke be funny if your mother your sister, your aunt, your daughter had been raped? If you daughter or your sister had come home with blood running down her legs because some brute had seen her, not as a human being with feelings and a physical body that hurts and bleeds, but as a vessel for his lust, his rage, his disrespect and his misogyny?
Its sad to see over five thousand young people "Like" that post, you are meant to be an advocate of good behaviour, an ambassador to young people, a voice for several women (some have gone through one form of sexual abuse or the other) out there who buy tickets to your shows and support your work not the other way round. We deserve more respect than what he made out of us"

A comedians mind is in a state of constant turmoil, you can say humans have different mind filters, while some have tiny holes for sifting what is let out of the mind, most comedians have found a way of allowing bigger particles through, that's why they make us laugh, because they have the courage to say things that we can only imagine, things that the society would frown on if we uttered them in our daily life. He obviously meant no harm, his filters just got bigger in a moment of weakness, Nigerians should stop taking it personal or as an avenue of blowing big grammar (like i am) and let the young man learn from his mistake in silence. 9jamachine say so and if you think its easy, call your entire family together and try to make them laugh. Shikena
ReplyDeleteTell them. Some Nigerians love to blow issues out of proportions whereas their stinking sores are beneath their clothes. He's apologized, why call for his head, everyone makes mistakes, the guy with the email should take several seats, focus on the positives not d negatives, it's a new year. Gosh!!!!!
