In a move to honour the first black President of South Africa, Nelson Mandela for his role in the fight against apartheid in South Africa, incumbent South African President, Jacob Zuma has announced that all South African bank notes by end of the year will carry the image of the ex President.
In his announcement which also coincides with the 22nd anniversary of the release of the Nobel Laureate from prison, Zuma said that, "It is a befitting tribute to a man who became a symbol of this country's struggle for freedom, human rights and democracy".
"With this humble gesture, we are expressing our deep gratitude as the South African people, to a life spent in service of the people of this country and in the cause of humanity worldwide."
