This is quite commendable and kudos to the team behind this. Just like Wikipedia and Google, Twitter is set to add Yoruba language to its list of translations.

The campaign to get support for the language on the social networking site commenced on March 1st, 2012 with about 24,000 tweets posted in Yoruba language and another 38,000 posted on 'tweet Yoruba day' in 2013. Twitter noticed the campaign and promised that support would come in a few months.

Meanwhile, Kola Tubosun (@baroka on Twitter), a Yoruba scholar and linguist and other brains behind this project are working on translating Twitter's standard glossary of terms to Yoruba and once this is done, Yoruba will be the only other African language asides Afrikaans (currently in beta) to be supported by the network.
