UEFA reveal full explanation for their team of Euro 2016

The UEFA Technical Team, led by Sir Alex Ferguson, have released a full report on Euro 2016. They unveiled the team of the tournament and explained why they explained why each player made it to the list. 

Goalkeeper – Rui Patricio (Portugal): Big saves in crucial games; good reception of crosses; sensible build-up; good all-round goalkeeping.
Right back – Joshua Kimmich (Germany): Young, positive and energetic; disciplined defending; strong work ethic; active in attack.
Centre back – Jerome Boateng (Germany): Mature defending with strength and power; excellent distribution with diagonal passing.
Centre back – Pepe (Portugal): The main man in the Portugal defence; experienced and efficient with leadership qualities.
Left back – Raphael Guerrero (Portugal): Technique, pace 1v1 skills, defensive covering, passing, good temperament & attitude.
Central midfielder – Toni Kroos (Germany): Experienced, influential player; control, full range of passes, long range shooting.
Central midfielder – Joe Allen (Wales): Prototype midfielder; active; consistent; able to control tempo and develop attacking moves.
Attacking midfielder – Antoine Griezmann (France): Creative, fluent movement across attack, finding blind sides around the box; killer instinct inside the box.
Attacking midfielder – Aaron Ramsey (Wales): Fantastic reading of game, coverage of ground and timing of runs; top-quality passing and finishing.
Attacking midfielder – Dimitri Payet (France): Exceptional technique; drifting off line to shooting positions; excellent set-play deliveries; key performer.
Centre forward – Cristiano Ronaldo (Portugal): Great finisher; exceptional heading ability; one of the tournament’s most dangerous attackers.

France star, Dimitri Payet who became the target of many high profile clubs after his impressive form in club and stellar performances at the Euro 2016 has shrugged off transfer speculation.
Payet, who joined West Ham last summer for £10.7 million and was on the radar of Manchester United and Real Madrid during the just concluded tournament has confirmed he would be staying put at West Ham.

"I’ve heard about all the interest and I’m flattered but I love West Ham. “We had a fantastic season and I can’t wait to play in the Olympic Stadium. “I’m 100% staying at West Ham, I love the club. I can tell the Hammers fans that.”  he said.

Real Madrid and Wales international, Gareth Bale has topped the list of the highest rated players at the just concluded Euro 2016 tournament. He is closely followed up by Kevin De Bruyne of Belgium. Bale had 23 shots, won 23 aeriel duels and scored 3 goals in 6 appearances.

The Portuguese team were treated to a heroes' welcome earlier today in Lisbon following their victory over France in the final of the 2016 European Championship. Thousands of elated fans chanted the name, 'Eder' the player who delivered the winning goal during a victory parade organised in the capital city.

Barcelona legend, Xavi Hernandez will on Sunday present the European football championship trophy to the winner of the match between Portugal and France. Portugal and France will play the final game of the tournament on Sunday in the Stade de France in Saint Denis.

Arsenal playmaker, Mesut Ozil has expressed his disappointment in the aftermath of Germany’s exit from the Euro 2016 tournament. His side were defeated by the hosts following a brace from Antoine Griezmann. The assist king who was emotional after the game was consoled by his Arsenal buddies, Giroud and Koscieny.

 “The disappointment of the bitter defeat is still the same as yesterday. It just was not meant to be and luck was not really on our side. Nevertheless, congratulations to France being a great host. The team and especially the people well deserved it after all the discussions and safety precautions throughout the country since November 2015. France beat Germany 2-0 to qualify for the final stage of the Euro 2016 tournament.  It's German's first tournament defeat since 2012. Meanwhile, Germany captain Bastian Schweinsteiger set new European record by becoming the most-capped player at major European international tournaments after starting against France in the Euro 2016 semi-finals. The host will meet Portugal on Sunday, 10th July 2016.

Portugal beat Wales 2-0 to proceed to the final stage of the Euro 2016 tournament. The goals in the game were scored by Cristiano Ronaldo and Nani at the 50th and 53th minutes of the game. Ronaldo becomes joint-highest scorer in European Championship history. He broke Michel Platini's record by scoring his 10th European Championship goal for Portugal.

France beat Iceland 5-2 to reach the Euro 2016 semifinals! Goals from Giroud, Pogba, Payet and Griezmann ended Iceland's remarkable run in the tournament. They'll face Germany on Thursday. Meanwhile the France v Iceland game is the first European game with 7 goals since Netherlands versus Yugoslavia which ended 6-1 in 2000.

Italy knocked out Spain to reach the Euro 2016 quarterfinals.  Goals from Chiellini and Pelle sunk the two-time defending champions. Italy will now face Germany in the quarter-finals.

Iceland staged a shocker and eliminated England from the Euro 2016 tournament.

France 2 Ireland 1

Antoine Griezmann scored two goals in 3 minutes to hand France a well deserved victory over Ireland. He becomes the first Frenchman to score 3 goals in the same European Championship since Zidane at Euro 2004.



Germany 3 Slovakia 0

Germany eased to a 3-0 win over Slovakia in the Euro 2016 round of 16. Boateng, Gomez & Draxler all scored as Joachim Low's men cruised into the #EURO2016 quarterfinals
Mario Gomez is now Germany's joint-top goalscorer at the European Championships. (5 goals) He levels with Jurgen Klinsmann.



Belgium 4 Hungary 0

Belgium qualified for the quarter-finals after a 4-0 victory over Hungary. Belgium becomes the first team with a 4-goal game in the Euro 2016 tournament. They now face Wales.

Poland 5 Switzerland 4
After a 1-1 draw in the full time game, Poland proceeded to the quarter-finals after beating Switzerland 5-4 in penalty shoot-out. They became the first team to reach last 8.


Wales 1 Northern Ireland 0
Wales reached the first quarter-final of a major tournament in 58 years after a win over Northern Ireland. McAuley's own goal sealed the last 8 spot for the Welsh team.


Portugal 1 Croatia 0
Portugal grabbed an extra-time winner to book a place in quarter-final. An 117th minute strike by Quaresma shattered Croatia's dream of progressing to the last 8.Interestingly, Portugal are the only country to reach the quarterfinals at the last six European Championships.

Cristiano Ronaldo netted a brace and Nani scored once to help Portugal qualify alongside Group F winners Hungary. Ronaldo who found the net for the first time became the first player to score in four EURO tournaments.


Iceland 2 Austria 1
Iceland scored a dramatic stoppage-time winner to eliminate Austria and seal a second place and a spot in Group F. They now face England in Euro 2016 last 16.


Italy 0 Republic Of Ireland 1
The Republic of Ireland have made it through to the last 16 of Euro 2016, thanks to Robbie Brady's stunning late lead. Italy will meet Spain in the round 16 fixtures.


Sweden 0 Belgium 1
Belgium advances to the knockout round with 1-0 victory over Sweden. Sweden are now officially out of the race. Zlatan Ibrahimovic has bowed out of international football as his beloved country couldn't scale through.

Ukraine 0 Poland 1

Poland beat Ukraine 1-0 to reach the knockout stage of Euro 2016. This is their first time of reaching a EURO finals tournament, after failing in 2008 and 2012. They will play against Switzerland in the second round.



Northern Ireland 0 Germany 1

Germany moved into the last 16 as Group C winners after 1-0 win over Northern Ireland. A 30th minute strike by Mario Gomez guided them into the knockouts. Northern Ireland are however through to the knock out stage. 




Croatia 2 Spain 1

Croatia came from behind to defeat Spain 2-1 and win Group D. Spain had an opportunity to secure their place after a penalty was awarded to them. But Sergio Ramos' shot was saved by Croatia's Subasic. However, Perisic fired in an 87th-minute shot to hand Spain's first defeat in 15 games at the European Championship.They will now face Italy on Monday. 




Czech Republic 0 Turkey 2

Albeit they needed 4 goals to qualify, Turkey retained hopes of advancing to the round of 16 with a 2-0 win over Czech Republic. Petr Cech  conceded the 21st goal at a EURO, more than any other goalkeeper.

Russia 0 Wales 0

Wales sealed a place in the last 16 after thrashing Russia to finish top of Group B. Aaron Ramsey opened the scoring at the 11th minute after racing behind the Russian defence before chipping over the goalkeeper. Neil Taylor and Gareth Bale also registered their names on scoring sheets at the 20th and 67th minutes respectively.


England 0 Slovakia 0

England finish second in Group B after being held to a goalless draw by Slovakia despite a dominating display in St-Etienne. England will now face either Austria, Hungary, Iceland or Portugal.

France secured top spot in Group A, after they played out a goalless draw with Switzerland. The French now top Group A with 7 points. Switzerland join them in the last 16.

Albania beat Romania to earn chance of last 16 place. Armando Sadiku's header handed the country her first ever win in tournament football. They finished third in Group A.

Belgium 3 Republic of Ireland

Belgium recorded its first points of the Euro 2016 tournament with a thrilling victory over the Republic of Ireland. The victories were delivered by Romelu Lukaku who netted twice and Axel Witsel who scored a header.



Iceland 1 Hungary 1

A late own-goal by Birkir Savarsson of Iceland in the dying seconds of their game against Hungary denied them of their first-ever win at a major tournament. Hungary are now atop Group F on 4 points. 



Portugal 0 Austria 0

Cristiano Ronaldo missed a penalty as Portugal vs Austria game ended  in goalless draw. Portugal who didn't do well against Iceland in their first match now sit at the third position on Group F standings.
