Nigeria and Stoke City forward, Osaze Odemwingie has been sidelined for several weeks owing to an hamstring injury he suffered in training. Manager of Stoke City, Mark Hughes revealed this in his pre-match conference of the game against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.

"Unfortunately Peter has got a hamstring strain and is likely to miss the next couple of weeks," Hughes said. "It's disappointing for him because he has worked tremendously hard throughout pre-season."

Meanwhile, Hughes is hoping to have winger Marko Arnautovic and defender Marc Wilson available for selection against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.
The duo was absent from the squad in last Sunday's curtain-raiser at the Britannia Stadium after suffering injury setbacks in the build-up to the fixture with Liverpool.

Super Eagles Manager, Stephen Keshi has revealed that Stoke City forward, Osaze Odemwingie who came in during the second half of the game did not follow his instructions during Nigeria's goalless draw against Iran on Monday and his poor performance also affected the team.

He told BBC World Service, "The Osaze you are talking about didn't do well. Osaze did not play to instruction and that affected the team. We expected three points from this game but everybody knows the most important game is between ourselves and Bosnia-Herzegovina. Next game I think will be easier and I think that will be the decider of where we will be at this World Cup."

To those who saw the game last night, this headline is like stating the obvious. Former Super Eagles Captain, Austin Jay Jay Okocha has said Coach Stephen Keshi should be held responsible for the Super Eagles' dismal performance against Iran last night.

The African football legend who is one of the World Cup analysts on Supersport told his colleagues. "Keshi should be held responsible for the way the team played. Before the match he said African teams are tactically not disciplined and he did not bring anything new to the table. His changes were poor. He took out Moses and brought in Ameobi. I think that was a wrong change. We saw how Osaze came in and showed a lot of creativity. That is the kind of thing we expected. Iran match would have been our strongest point but we missed it."

Stoke City forward, Osaze Odemwingie strongly believes that the national team coach, Stephen Keshi can do without him at the forthcoming FIFA World Cup. This is coming few weeks after the Nigerian international mended bridges with the coach.

Many have suggested on various sports platforms that since the Super Eagles player who's presently in an incredible form has done the needful and tendered his apology to Keshi, he deserves to be included in the World cup team. According to them, form is more important than attitude. Chiefly, Nigeria needs players who can add value to the team and make impact in the tournament.

The father of one told BBC Sport, "I have been speaking with the coach, it's the only right thing to do. I had to be humble and make a step forward towards my senior colleagues. You can't continue to stay in that angry state of mind. Staying in that state, it's not the right thing to do. It's never helpful for anyone It was very disappointing at the time, it was hard to accept it. I had a strong feeling that it was Nigeria's time to win it. I was as frustrated as any other player. For me to hear that was very important on a human level. It's not about people, its always about the country. We're all defending the colours of our nation. Coach Keshi can do without me at the World Cup and my life will go on as well, but the most important thing is mutual respect. Now I know how he does things and how he wants things done and vice versa."

So Osaze Odemwingie finally got off his high horse. Good for him! Wise decision! Sure Super Eagles would be glad to welcome him back. There are strong indications that the Stoke City striker would make a comeback to Eagles after he apologised to the national team coach, Stephen Keshi.
It would be recalled that the England-based forward was dropped out of the squad after he threw tantrums at Keshi on twitter for substituting him during a Nations Cup match in Rwanda in 2012. A reliable source revealed that Keshi has accepted his apologies.

"Keshi is human and was touched by the change of heart of Osaze in asking for forgiveness. He(Keshi) wants the best for the Super Eagles. Since Osaze is doing well in his club and has shown remorse, he will soon open the doors for the ''prodigal son''.

Stephen Keshi
There are speculations that Nigerian Super Eagles coach Stephen Keshi may not include Chelsea's Mikel Obi in his list of players playing in the 2013 Nations Cup qualifier in Rwanda.

Though Mikel has resumed training after seven weeks out with a muscle problem, the coach insisted that only fit players will be involved in the game.
"It's very simple only fit players would be invited now. We have three major qualifiers, there is CHAN 2012, AFCON 2013 and the World Cup qualifiers, so we are just building and everyone would get a chance but right now only fit players will be invited".

"My list will consist of only players who are in action every week."

With this statement, would Mikel who has been absent in his club for weeks be included in Keshi's list?
On whether Blackburn Rovers striker, Yakubu Aiyegbeni who has been given a back seat after he missed a sitter against South Korea at the 2010 World Cup would also feature, he said that, "There was no time I said Aiyegbeni was on my list. But if he makes it to the list, that means he deserves to be there," said the coach.

However, those who top the list of call-ups include Vincent Enyeama, Joseph Yobo, Osaze Odemwingie, Obinna Nsofor, Efe Ambrose, Ike Uche, Taye Taiwo, Joel Obi, Brown Ideye, Ekigho Ehiosun and Austin Ejide.

A former member of the Nigeria Football Federation, Shuaibu Gara-Gombe in an interview revealed that some key players sabotaged recently-sacked Eagles coach Samson Siasia as he was having problems with them.
Shuaibu also explained that sacking the ex-coach is not the end of the nation's football woes adding that SiaSia was just a victim of the system he worked for.
Though it was clearly stated in his contract that he had to qualify the country in the 2012 African Cup of Nations, Shuaibu explained that there is something wrong with the technical committee of Nigeria football federation, according to him, the most important job of the committee is to sit down with national team coaches and discuss their match plans, team formation&players to be used, "Nigerians have to understand that if the coach fails the committee has failed too. The technical committee lacks a sound qualified head. It is difficult to believe that Osaze Odemwingie who scores from 25yards when playing for his team and Emmanuel Emenike could not score from 6 yards in a match as vital as that. The kind of goals they failed to score in that match was inexplicable." He concluded.
