‎As part of his philanthropic activities, especially during the Ramadan period, ex President Abdusalami  Abubakar has bailed out 30 prison inmates who were jailed for petty offences in Kano. The spokesperson of the former President, Goron Dutse implored them to be law abiding and avoid acts that would bring them back in prison.‎

Some of the released inmates Daniel Saleh who expressed gratitude at the gesture said he was jailed because he couldn't settle a fine of N5,000. ‎Another freed inmate, Godpower Ugoyebi, said he was involved in a fight with a friend and arrested by the police and arraigned before a court.‎ He was given a fine option but couldn't pay.
