The new transfer record surpassed the $56 million Jiangsu Suning made for Brazilian Alex Teixeira and the $47 million Guangzhou Evergrande paid for Colombia's Jackson Martinez.
The ex Porto player who passed a medical examination at a Shanghai clinic on Wednesday and will reportedly be paid an annual salary of $22 million, double of what fellow countryman, Neymar earns at Barcelona.
