The Nairobi City Water and Sewage Company has partnered with a Danish water engineering company Grundfos to make clean water available to Kenyans via water dispensing machines.
Water starts flowing after buyers insert a smart card into the machine. After topping their cards at a kiosk or through the mobile phone, just like the ATMs, they type in how much water they want to buy and voila! water starts flowing into their containers.
The Nairobi City Water and Seweage company charges half a
Kenya shilling (half a US cent) for 20 litres of water as against 50 Kenya shillings for the same litres of water charged by traditional vendors. These machines will be made available in 4 different locations in the country.
