Denis Cheryshev

Real Madrid could be expelled from the Copa Del Rey competition for fielding an ineligible player during their clash with Cadiz last night. The 24-year-old player Denis Cheryshev who scored the opening goal of the game was on loan at Villarreal last season, and earned three yellow cards and a one-match suspension. He wasn’t meant to be on Real’s line up because he is still serving a ban.

Although the Russia international was substituted few seconds into the second half, Cadiz President Vizcaíno has announced that they will report Real Madrid's illicit line-up. The Blancos if found guilty, might be expelled from the competition. Osasuna were expelled from the Copa Del Rey for a similar offence in September.

Real Madrid manager, Rafael Benitez has however denied knowledge of the suspension.
"Of course the club knew nothing. We were not informed by either Villarreal or the Royal Spanish Football Federation and when we were notified, we took him off to show good faith," He wrote on Real's official website.
