It was a record-breaking weekend in Spain.

Sevilla became the first team in La Liga history to start a game without a single Spanish player in their line-up. The players who featured in the game were from six different nationalities namely Argentina, France, Brazil, Japan, Italy and Portugal.

Real Madrid  on the other hand beat Espanyol 2-0 away to equal Barcelona's La Liga record for most successful wins under Pep Guardiola. The Los Blancos recorded 16 consecutive victories, surpassing the 15-game winning streak recorded by the squad during Miguel Munoz's tenure in the 1960/61 season.

Online petitions demanding that Real Madrid's first five European titles be revoked has garnered a total of 50,000 signatures on change.org. The petition which kicked off few days back by a certain Justicia Deportiva - (Sporting Justice) reads thus.

"We wish to request, in the name of the values represented by the sport and by democracy, that Real Madrid's 5 'European Cups' won between 1955-56 and 1959-60, be immediately revoked in recognition of the fact that those trophies in no way correspond to the competition recognized today as the UEFA Champions League".

So what they are saying in essence is that every time a format is changed the title holder should be stripped off their title?  Very funny!

Spanish outfits, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid have been banned by FIFA from registering players for two transfer windows for flouting rules on signing non-Spanish under-18 players. Atletico were fined 900,000 Swiss francs (623,248 pound) while Real picked 360,000 francs. The players featured in games between 2007 and 2014 for Atletico, and 2005 and 2014 for Real Madrid. Both clubs will not be able to participate in the next two transfer windows until July/August 2016 and January 2017.

"The two clubs were found to have violated several provisions concerning the international transfer and first registration of minor players."
"FIFA works hard to protect the rights of players under the age of 18 -- whether male or female, amateur or professional,"
"This is done through the enforcement of regulations prohibiting the international transfer of minors, or the first registration of minors in a country other than their own, except in specific circumstances." a FIFA statement read.

The 'campaign' talk, a familiar phrase in football. To cut the long story short, it is one of Jose Mourinho' infamous phrases.

Real Madrid coach, Rafa Benitez believes there is a campaign against him, Real Madrid president Florentino Perez and the club. Real who had a mind-blowing outing weeks back, walloping Rayo Vallecano 10-2 are two points off the top of La Liga.
Speaking at a news conference today ahead of Real' clash with Real Sociedad, the ex Liverpool manager said

"There is a campaign against (president) Florentino (Perez), Real Madrid and me.
"Everything is criticised that can be and where not it is manipulated which anyone can see. This is particularly clear if you look at the situation from the outside."
"Everything is being magnified and I have a lot of experience coaching so I know to be distracted as little as possible.

"I have 24 players in the squad but when I leave out one player then it is made out that it is something personal and a load of speculation is built up. The team is a lot better than people think. My relationship with the players is infinitely better than what you read in the press. There is a communications department that keeps me informed. The team is doing some things well and others not so much."

Real Madrid have been disqualified from the Copa del Rey competition for fielding an ineligible player.  Cheryshev, the player in question who received three yellow cards in the competition last season on loan at Villarreal scored the first goal for the Blancos during their clash with Cadiz on Wednesday night.

Shortly after an official complaint was filed by Cadiz, Real Madrid president Florentino Perez called a press conference insisting that he wasn't aware of the 24 year-old's suspension.

That apparently didn't do much as the Spanish authorities today threw them out of the competition.

Denis Cheryshev

Real Madrid could be expelled from the Copa Del Rey competition for fielding an ineligible player during their clash with Cadiz last night. The 24-year-old player Denis Cheryshev who scored the opening goal of the game was on loan at Villarreal last season, and earned three yellow cards and a one-match suspension. He wasn’t meant to be on Real’s line up because he is still serving a ban.

Although the Russia international was substituted few seconds into the second half, Cadiz President Vizcaíno has announced that they will report Real Madrid's illicit line-up. The Blancos if found guilty, might be expelled from the competition. Osasuna were expelled from the Copa Del Rey for a similar offence in September.

Real Madrid manager, Rafael Benitez has however denied knowledge of the suspension.
"Of course the club knew nothing. We were not informed by either Villarreal or the Royal Spanish Football Federation and when we were notified, we took him off to show good faith," He wrote on Real's official website.

Real Madrid's reserve team coach Zinedine Zidane has rubbished talks of him replacing Rafael Benitez as Real Madrid head coach. This development is coming after Barca went on rampage against the Spanish side scoring 4-0 in the first El clasico of the season. Real haven't suffered such humiliating defeat at home by their fierce rivals since at 2009. There are reports that Benitez who has lost just once in his first 15 games in charge of the Blancos could be axed and replaced with the ex France international as the 12th manager.

Zinedine has claimed that nothing of such is happening. "I am the coach of the Castilla reserves. Benitez is the first-team coach and things are fine as well. I'm happy with what we've done today with the Castilla against a difficult rival. I stayed to train the Castilla. Last year I went away with the feeling that something was missing for me. I am stubborn and when the objective is not fulfilled it is necessary to do it."

The French boss continued, "I have a lot to learn but a trainer is never [fully] prepared. I am doing this, like a player, little by little. I do no rush anything. The present is Castilla and we are going to continue like that."

‎Portuguese football star, Cristiano Ronaldo has dismissed rumours going rounds that he will return to Manchester United soon. The 2015 Golden boot award winner has countless times been linked to a move to the English Premier League club but the Los Blancos forward has declared his intention to retire at the Spanish club.

He told Daily Mirror shortly after winning his fourth European Golden shoe yesterday,"Logically, I have a contract until I am 33 and – as I have said a number of times – my dream is to finish here with Real Madrid. If you take care of yourself you can play until you are 40. I want to keep going for another five or six years.

"I am settled here, I'm useful here and I want to continue at the club. I want to win and I am at the best club in the world. I'm not satisfied yet – I always want more. Real Madrid have published a statement insisting they "did everything that was necessary" in their unsuccessful attempt to sign David De Gea from Manchester United. Real had agreed a deal to sign De Gea on Monday with Keylor Navas due to move in the opposite direction, but the paperwork was not submitted in time for the transfers to be completed.

They received widespread criticism in the Spanish media for their failure to sign the player, and United are reportedly blaming Real for the collapse of the deal. It had been suggested that Real would appeal to FIFA in an effort to push the deal through, but there appeared to be little prospect of success and they indicated on Tuesday that the Spain international will remain at Old Trafford.

However, the statement implied that United were responsible for failure to beat the midnight deadline in LA Liga. The statement read: "After what happened yesterday in relation to the intent to sign the player David De Gea, Real Madrid wants to specify:

"1. Manchester United didn't open any negotiations for federation rights over David De Gea until yesterday morning.

"2. Real Madrid, despite the difficulties regarding entering into an operation of this kind on the last day of the transfer window, Real Madrid agreed to start these conversations.

"3. When Manchester United opened this negotiation yesterday morning they did so with the plan to reach an agreement with Real Madrid player Keylor Navas so that he would join the British club this season and said that they are in contact with the player's representative.

"4. Real Madrid and Manchester United reached a quick agreement over the transfers of both players. After drafting the corresponding contractual documents with the goal of proceeding within the time frame of both the TMS of FIFA as well as La Liga, Real Madrid sent the contracts to Manchester United at 13:39 Spanish time.

"5. Manchester United replies with its comments eight hours later at 21:43 Spanish time, including small modifications. Because they were not major, all were immediately accepted by Real Madrid with the intention to register the player in both TMS and the Liga in time.

"6. Real Madrid, after getting the signatures of both De Gea and Keylor Navas, remitted the papers to the English club with the contracts signed at 23:32 Spanish time, and waited to receive the signed documents from Manchester United.

"7. Manchester United reached a final agreement with Keylor Navas' representative at 23:53 Spain time and it was at that time that the documents were remitted to player to be signed.

"8. Manchester United put the data regarding the David De Gea transfer into the TMS but not that of Keylor Navas at 00:00 Spanish time, while remitting to Real Madrid the signed transfer contracts at the same time. Real Madrid received that complete documentation at 00:02 and tried to access TMS but it was already shut down.

"9. At 00:26 Spain time, FIFA's TMS system invited Real Madrid to add the information about the player David De Gea due to the fact that England's transfer window remained open until today. Real Madrid, realising the eventuality of a contentious run for the player's transfer, decides to remit the contracts to La Liga, even knowing that the window for the deal had closed.

"10. Definitely, Real Madrid did everything that was necessary at all times to get these two transfers completed."

Portuguese defender, Pepe has signed a contract extension that will keep him at Real Madrid until 2017. Pepe, 32, who has been linked over recent seasons with a move to English clubs Manchester City, Chelsea and Manchester United, has prolonged his stay at the Bernabeu club for another two seasons at least. The news follows his long-term centre-back partner Sergio Ramos also signing a new contract at Madrid, ending what had been a long summer of speculation that he could be moving to England.

"Real Madrid and Pepe have agreed the extension of the player's contract, to remain at the club until 30 June 2017," said the short club statement announcing the news. Pepe joined Madrid from Porto for €30 million in 2007, and has been a first choice for subsequent coaches Manuel Pellegrini, Jose Mourinho and Carlo Ancelotti.

He is also expected to start Sunday's La Liga opener at Sporting Gijon under new Blancos coach Rafa Benitez, having returned to full training this week after overcoming the thigh muscle strain which saw him miss Madrid's last two preseason friendlies.

Real Madrid have completed the signing of Mateo Kovacic from Inter Milan on a six year contract.
Madrid did not confirm the value of the deal but Kovacic, 21, is reported to have cost around €30 million. A statement on the Spanish club's official website read:

"Real Madrid C. F. and Inter Milan have agreed to the transfer of Mateo Kovacic, he will remain at the club for the next six seasons. The player will be presented tomorrow, Wednesday 19 August at 1 p.m., in the presidential box at the Santiago Bernabeu, after undergoing a medical. Afterwards, Mateo Kovacic will step out onto the pitch at the Santiago Bernabeu for the first time wearing the Real Madrid shirt and talk to the media in the press room."

Inter boss Roberto Mancini had previously confirmed that his side had accepted Real's offer for Kovacic as they needed to balance the books. "Unfortunately there are financial fair play rules to respect and I don't think any of us wanted this, but to respect UEFA's parameters we had to do something,"  Inter Mancini told Mediaset television.

"That does not mean we won't build a side capable of being competitive. We're all sad, from the president down to the players, but given these rules, you have to make sacrifices. I'm sorry if some people can't understand that."

The reported fee would mean a healthy profit for Inter on the €11m paid for the then 18-year-old when he arrived from Dinamo Zagreb in January 2013.

Real Madrid player, Sergio Ramos will not be leaving Madrid or signing a new deal with the club until 2020. The  29-year-old's new deal with the Spanish giants will end in 5 years time.

The Spanish ‎defender brought his wife, Pilar Rubio, and his family to a special event put together by the club.

"I want to stay at this club and enjoy it as long as I can. My heart and my head has always been with Real Madrid. My extension was never a money issue. I have never said I wanted to leave Real Madrid. Money has never been my motivation, my family is. I always wanted to retire here at Real Madrid.  The truth is clear: I never wanted to leave Real Madrid." He said.‎
