African soccer legend, Kanu Nwankwo is bereaved. The retired Nigerian footballer is mourning the loss of his mother, Mrs. Susan Kanu Iheme who passed on on the 7th of September. He told  papilonews.com about the experience.

"The loss of Mama is hard to bear. She is a rock that stood by me and all my siblings. She showed us equal love and affection, and always prayed for each and every one of us. Her support and prayers for me right from the beginning of my playing career till the end were invaluable. Her guidance also went a very long way into moulding me into the man I am today. She taught me to love, and to give. I will miss her, but God knows best."

Going by this picture, which shows them posing with African football legend, Kanu Nwankwo, Arsenal coach, Arsene Wenger and CEO, Ivan Gazidis, seems their move has been finalized. 3 ex and current Nigeria internationals; Mikel Obi, Kanu Nwankwo and Austin Okocha have been named in the top 10 African Richest Footballers list.

The study was conducted and published by French publication, Footendirect. I really don't believe Okocha and Kanu are richer than Mikel. What is however difficult to ascertain is if the list was drawn up before or after Kanu’s recent setback.

Ex Nigeria international, Joseph Yobo has reportedly dumped football for politics. I'm taking this news with a pinch of salt. Albeit the former Super Eagles Captain and Nigerian football legend, Kanu Nwankwo have been visible members of President Goodluck Jonathan's campaign team, that really doesn't mean the latter has called it quits with the round leather game. And again, he could be seeking for a political post.

But sources close to the former Everton player disclosed that he is really through with soccer and infact he rejected contracts from Asia and America to concentrate on his support for the President.

"I can tell you that Yobo is no longer interested in playing football or anything related to the game now. Yobo is more interested  in paving the way for his political ambitions and from the way he is going, it is not a mirage.

"A couple of weeks ago, he turned down contracts from Asia and America to concentrate on his support for President Jonathan. Yobo is not stopping at just support alone, he is determined to take it beyond 2015." The source added.

Former Super Eagles forward, Kanu Nwankwo has lashed out at those causing commotion at NFF's glass house. You would recall that FIFA threatened to suspend Nigeria from international competitions if the incumbent NFF President, Chris Giwa doesn't step down.

africanFootball.com however quotes the former Arsenal player as saying those behind the crisis should be ashamed of themselves.

"All those involved in this crisis have to be ashamed of themselves because they are really killing football in Nigeria. There is no peace. Nobody understands what's going on and the earlier this problem is solved, the better." kanu added.

My heart skipped when I heard the news. So glad it was nothing serious. Former Super Eagles Captain and founder, Kanu Heart Foundation, Kanu Nwankwo over the weekend had his second (corrective) heart surgery at the Cleveland Hospital, Ohio, USA; the same hospital that handled the first surgery in 1997. Thankfully, the operation was successful and Papilo as he's fondly called is recuperating fast.

"He'll be back home in a few days time. I spoke with him Sunday afternoon and he confirmed he's in a stable condition." Onyebuchi Abia, Kanu Heart Foundation Co-ordinator said in a statement.

The Nigerian football legend who was among the recipients of the Nigeria Centenary awards tweeted a picture of his award today. "I thank God. Thanks for all your support and keep supporting." He added.

Former Super Eagles skipper and Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Football Ambassador, Kanu Nwankwo has expressed his delight on his recent appointment as a Board of Trusties (BOT) member of the Youth Sports Federation of Nigeria (YSFON).
Speaking on his passion to help raise the next stream of national team stars, he said that, "I have always had a passion to help develop future talent – the next Jay Jay Okocha, Kanu or Ikpeba; and the only way to do this is to catch them young. There are a lot of talents in the country we only need to discover and nurture them and there is no other way than to start at the grassroots level. That is why I'm very happy to become a member of the BOT of YSFON where I hope to use my experience to help out."

Officials of Arsenal football club have revealed their intentions of searching for 'another Nwankwo Kanu' during the pre-season playing tour coming up in Nigerian in 2012.
The retired Super Eagles skipper Kanu Nwankwo who played for the club from 1999-2004 won several major pieces of silverware including two EPL Championship medals with the London club.
Going by what Arsenal marketing chief, Angus Kinnear saw during his short visit in Nigeria, the club could again strike a gold by discovering another Kanu.
"Arsene Wenger will be glad at what is present here. He is a man who does not consider passports but talents and I believe his coming next year would produce another Nwankwo Kanu," a very impressed Kinnear said after he inspected facilities at the Abuja National Stadium and met with top officials of the Nigeria Football Federation.
