Didier Drogba refused to play for Montreal Impact after learning he'd start on the bench

Didier Drogba refused to play for Montreal Impact after learning he will be left out of the team’s starting XI against Toronto. The Chelsea legend wasn’t happy with the idea that he would start from the bench and so opted not to turn up for the game which later ended 2-2.

Montreal initially thought his omission was due to a back injury but later learnt he could actually feature in the game play but just didn’t show up…he probably felt slighted.

'I spoke with him on Saturday and he didn't accept the fact that he would come off the bench and, in the end, he didn't want to be in the 18. He decided not to play.' There was tightness in his back, yes, but he was capable of playing. The organisation will have to handle this .” coach Mauro Biello said

Montreal Impact player, Didier Drogba is taking legal actions against British newspaper, Daily Mail over allegations that his The Didier Drogba Foundation an organisation set up to help sick people in Africa  misused donations meant for charity purpose.

Yesterday, the media outfit claimed only 1% of £1.7million in the coffers of the organization went to charity and that the rest was spent on lavish fundraising parties. The outfit also also added that contrary to claims that the foundation has built a hospital and 5 clinics in Ivory Coast, only 1 hospital with no equipment or personnel was built.

Reacting to the allegations, the Chelsea legend said he will begin legal proceedings against the media house over the accusations adding that he used his own money to pay for fundraising events. "There is no fraud, no corruption, no mismanagement, no lies, no impropriety."

"Their attempts to destroy the work of the Foundation will not deter me and will not stop me continuing the work we have begun."He affirmed.

MLS club, Montreal Impact have announced the signing of Ivorian, Didier Drogba on Monday.
The club bought the striker from Chicago Fire where he was initially signed.

Chicago initially obtained Drogba's rights by filing a discovery claim on the player and pursued him for over a month. The Fire thought their offer would be enough to entice the former Chelsea forward to head to the Windy City, but Montreal soon entered the fray, and the prospect of playing in the French-speaking city proved more attractive to the former Ivory Coast captain.

When Drogba indicated his preference was to be in Montreal, the Fire traded his rights to the Impact in exchange for what one source with knowledge of the deal
described as a "substantial amount of targeted and regular allocation money" of at least $250,000.

Drogba scored 164 goals for Chelsea in two stints, first from 2004-2012, and again last season. He won the Premier League's Golden Boot as top scorer in 2007 and 2010.

I was shocked for several minutes. Why will anyone buy a jersey for $7,500? Was it made of diamonds or what? Alas it was sold for a cause, a worthy cause.

Didier Drogba Chelsea shirt was
auctioned for $7,500 in Abidjan to raise funds for Salomon Kalou Foundation. The foundation is building a private hospital in the African country to treat kidney diseases.

“Didier Drogba is a good person. When I arrived at Chelsea, I
was just 20 years old. And we all know that at that young age earning big money could be a problem. But Drogba was always there to counsel and guide me. Drogba is a very humble person. He has always been there for me. I owe him a lot.”‎ Kalou said.

The 29 year-old also donated $25,000 to his foundation. Asides the jersey, Drogba made a donation of a dialysis machine
worth $50,000. His fellow countrymen, Gervinho and Yaya Toure also contributed their quota.
Their jerseys were auctioned for $850 and $3,500 respectively.

Manchester United player and blogger, Juan Mata has paid tribute to Premier League legends, Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard and Didier Drogba, some of whom bade farewell to their clubs after their gamed. He titled his blog post, 'It's over now… but we'll be back stronger!'. Read below.

Hi everyone,

This is my last blog's entry of the season and I say goodbye until the next one. I hope you have enjoyed this weekly encounter as much as I have. You know, in the good times… and in the bad ones too.

This is the end of a season with mixed feelings. In some stages we played very good football, being very competitive especially against our main rivals, and we enjoyed some important wins; on the other hand, there were periods when we were not consistent enough to fight for the title, or suffered some painful defeats.

In general terms, we reached the main goal of the club this season: to have the chance to play the Champions League (we still have to earn it in the play-off round), but this team has to fight for trophies, and we will put all our efforts to that after summer. That's what you deserve.

We finished the season with a draw at Hull that also meant the local team was relegated. It's not nice to experience something like that on-site, unfortunately this is not the first time I see it. As I said, we approached this game in the most professional way, trying to win. At the end, our draw, plus Newcastle's victory, leave Hull in the relegation zone.

My support to their fans, we hope to see you back in the Premier League soon. By the way, Jonás goal for Newcastle tells a lot about life and the way to overcome the real problems.

In our game, my friend Víctor Valdés appeared in United's starting XI for the first time. It was a great experience for him and also a reward to his good job at the training ground every week. On top of that, he completed a great game with a few big saves.

From a personal point of view, according to the stats I have played 2,420 minutes, scoring 10 goals and giving 4 assists. They are good numbers but, as always, I'll try to get better year after year ;-). I hope to keep contributing goals and assists to achieve big things with the team.

Being the last week of the Premier League, we have seen a few farewells and some of them very significant. Like Steven Gerrard's, for instance. I mentioned him a week ago for his relevance and contribution to the history of football.

The same thing can be said, of course, about Frank Lampard, one of the best team-mates I have ever had and someone I have learnt a lot from. A true legend in both English and world football. I wish him all the best in his new stage in the United States and I thank him for his treatment to me at all times. And I don't forget another great player and former team-mate, Didier Drogba, one of the best strikers the Premier League has ever seen and a phenomenal guy in every sense.

With so many legends leaving, a good part of football's history in England is leaving too.
Since we played on Sunday, I had time on Saturday to watch the games in la Liga, where the last minutes were absolutely thrilling. All of us who have played there followed the end of the championship with a lot of interest.

At the Camp Nou, Xavi, a fantastic player, said goodbye to la Liga in Spain. He still has to play the Cup final at the same stadium against Athletic, and that will be Iraola's farewell too. The last game brought joy to Valencia and Granada.

I'm happy especially for my friends from Valencia –you guys deserve to be in the Champions League always– and for Paco Alcácer in particular, a gem of their football academy, a great striker and a great guy.

On the other hand, I feel sorry for Eibar's relegation, a modest club but also an exemplary one. I hope they can enjoy good times soon.
And, of course, I hope Real Oviedo can certify their promotion to the Second Division against Cádiz the next weekend, after a draw in the first leg.

The atmosphere in the Carlos Tartiere was simply amazing. The stadium was absolutely full of fans committed to make the dream come true. I hope we can make it this year.

I'm starting to say goodbye… Now it's time to switch off, to rest and get our strength back with a view to the exciting next season. I'll see you soon in the tour of the United States. We had a fantastic experience there last summer and we hope to repeat in a few months.

Thank you very much for your support in each and every game, you make this sport big and make us feel very proud. We are looking forward to achieve big things all together. Have a great summer!

Hugs!

Juan

This has to be the most heart-breaking sport news at this period, particularly to Chelsea fans who have been looking forward to seeing their legend don the Blues kit and play again.

Chelsea and Barcelona's new signings, Didier Drogba and Thomas Vermaelen have been ruled out for months for injuries. While Didier sustained an ankle injury during Chelsea's game with Ferencváros yesterday, Thomas on the other hand sustained his; a thigh injury at the 2014 World Cup.
Meaning, Barcelona were aware of his situation but just decided to shroud that part in secrecy or how do we explain an injury just two days after he passed his medical at the Catalan club?

Thomas Vermaelen who was signed from passed from Arsenal for a £15m fee, according to Barca's website "will undergo physiotherapy and will be unavailable for an unknown period." Drogba on the other hand could return to action after 4-6 months.

Arsene Wenger is a smart biz man afterall. *winks*

Even if you all are sleeping, you should know who that 'one' person is. Well, he's no other person than Chelsea midfielder, Mikel Obi. The Stamford bridge boss who wrote Ghana off earlier on has backed Nigeria to make it to the next round........ because of him.

The former Real Madrid coach was quoted in an interview: "Argentina has to be the group winner and what makes me decide for Nigeria is the fact that I have there one player there."

He has also tipped Ivory Coast to succeed because of that player Chelsea fans still hold in high respect- Didier Drogba. "I'm very emotional, I go always with my friends." The Portuguese added.
