30 year-old Christopher Katongo has trumped the likes of Demba Ba, Didier Drogba, Younes Belhanda and Yaya Toure to win the 2012 BBC African Footballer of the Year award. Katongo alone amassed 40% of the total votes cast.

The elated captain of the Zambia national team said his victory as a fantastic moment for him.
"This means a lot for the young people and the young players who look up to me. I could not have achieved this without the support of my team mates. I did my best and the people have spoken; that's the beauty of this award." He added.
