Chelsea and Nigeria midfielder, John Mikel Obi has been named the Nigeria Player of the Year 2012 by readers of Goal.com Nigeria.

The 25 year-old who garnered a total of 36.8 % votes cast edged out team-mates; Victor Moses, Ahmed Musa, Reuben Gabriel and John Utaka who came second, third, fourth and fifth respectively.

He was presented the award by veteran journalist and Chief Editor, Goal.com Nigeria, Ololade Adewuyi on Thursday at the Olympic Park Stadion, South Africa.

Mikel who has so far been impressive in the ongoing AFCON tournament disclosed to goal.com Nigeria that he wants to help his country overcome all obstacles on their way towards winning a third African title in South Africa.
