Babcock University Teaching Hospital, Ilishan-Remo, Ogun State, Nigeria has performed its first heart surgery. The surgery which was a milk valve replacement lasted 6 hours and was performed on a 34-year-old woman.

The team of cardio thoracic surgeons who achieved the feat include;‎ Professor Kamar Adeleke, Dr. Michael Sanusi, Dr. Mudashiru Lawal and Dr. Edward Anderson.

The Senior Vice President of the university, Professor Iheanyichukwu Okoro said, "What is going on now at the Tristate Heart and Vascular Centre of the University is not the last of such operations until all afflicted hearts are rid of that which prevents their effective functioning."
