History continues to be a relevant discourse because history is our problem. I have always insisted that the unfettered massacre of the Igbos before, during and after the Biafran War (1967-1970) is like a guilty conscience. Nigeria as a country fruitlessly try to repress it, yet it keeps rearing its ugly head. Like the proverbial corpse buried in a hurry by a bunch of frantic murderers (thanks to rich Yoruba language), the fact of the Biafran War has again let one leg out of the grave. After it reared its ugly head in Achebe's There was a Country, Nigeria was engulfed in hot debates largely over peripheral issues and details, rather than confront the heart of the matter. And we repressed it like a guilty conscience.

Here again, the Biafran corpse buried in a hurry has let out its leg in Chimamanda's Half of a Yellow Sun! Now, Nigeria's film board is trying to repress it. Though the novel upon which the movie is based was released years ago, why a seeming clampdown is being meted out on the movie is apparent: many couldn't read Adichie's novel due to high rates of illiteracy; and for those who are literate, endemic poverty means many still can't afford to buy the novel. The BBC puts it succinctly: "The book was released in Nigeria but with the country's high rates of illiteracy, a film is likely to get more attention."

Half of a Yellow Sun reminds us of the moving movie -Sometimes in April- which recaptures the shocking reality of the 1994 Rwandan Genocide. Earlier in April, the whole world was touched as Rwandans -Hutu, Tutsi and Twa- all mourned the 1994 genocide of mostly Tutsi and moderate Hutus. Rwandans stood together. They accepted responsibility. They stooped. They were sorry for the massacre of their fellow countrymen. They immortalized the memory. They will not forget. They teach the history to their children in schools. They put the memories of what must not be allowed to happen again in the glare of all, especially the future generation. They said "Never again!".

But not Nigeria. We have not taken responsibility for the unfettered pogrom against Igbos before and after the civil war. We still trade blames. We were not sorry. We are not sorry. And we are more eager to fight than any country in the world today, unfortunately. Like guilty conscience, the nagging compunctions are there, but we continue to repress it. Or why do some continue to make allusions to the Biafran War the way they do when national issues are raised? For instance, Murtala Nyako, Governor of Adamawa State (Boko Haram's hotbed) recently made a false, paranoid claim that President Goodluck Jonathan is paying the northerners back for their role during the civil war (1967-1970) by sponsoring the terrorist Islamic sect and also using the military to commit genocide against northerners.

Elders of Northern Nigeria also insinuated the same line on reasoning when they claimed former Chief of Army Staff Lt. Gen Azubuike Ihejirika (of Igbo extraction) committed crimes against humanity and therefore should be tried at the Hague for his manner of conduct of anti-terror war against Boko Haram in the region. Such attempts to intertwine unrelated issues points to fundamental issues which are the largely unresolved.

We need to learn from Rwanda how to deal with our own history, and move forward. Indeed the director of the movie, Biyi Bandele, was right when he insisted that "One of the reasons Nigeria is more divided today – 40 years after the end of the war – than it was before the war started, is because we have refused to talk about the elephant in the room." A callous attempt to ban Half of the Yellow Sun will even promote its popularity rather than deter us from watching it. The Jews have preserved memories of the Holocaust through movies, museums and novels. We can do the same in Nigeria

Dayo Okeniyi is not your regular Nollywood actor. Infact, I can't remember seeing him in any Nigerian movie before (well, maybe he acted in few ones, I'm not really sure) but he does more of Hollywood movies. The 25 year-old who starred in The Hunger Games and The Spectacular has landed a role in the new Terminator franchise, Terminator: Genesis.

The Jos-born actor who kicked off his acting career four years ago will be playing the role of Danny Dyson, the son of Skynet scientist Miles Dyson who was in Terminator 2. The movie will be released by July 1, 2015.

The movie which will premiere in Lagos on Friday, April 25, 2014 was directed by Biyi Bandele. It tells the story of four people during the struggle to establish an independent republic in Nigeria. The Film and Video Producers and Marketers Association of Nigeria (FVPMAN) have reportedly lifted the ban on leading actress, Mercy Johnson-Okojie. You would recall that she was banned from acting for charging exorbitant fees (N4/5million per movie) and for her unprofessional conduct on set. According to them, the conflict was resolved after she apologized for her excesses.

'The disagreement between producers/marketers and Mercy Johnson finally ends following the FVPMAN's national working committee meeting, held on Sunday, March 9, 2014. Mercy having diligently concluded all the jobs in dispute leaves us with no choice than to accept her apology. She is one wonderful personality we would not want to join issues with. She knows when to say sorry. She has concluded all that we asked her to do. We have directed our members to resume all the previous existing relationship with her.' Nobert Ajaegbu, spokesman for FVPMAN, said in a statement.

Quintessential actress, Mercy Johnson is unarguably the most versatile actress in the Nigerian movie industry now.. Her good, bad, funny and down right crazy roles are enough to back up my points. She deserves all the acclaim she gets Only few actresses can cope with a variety of roles.

Playing the role of a cattle-rearer just shows how well-rounded she is. Not sure if this is the same movie she acted the role of a bush-meat seller in (which I talked about few days ago) but one thing we all know is; she's incredibly gifted. A fan asked her if she wasn't scared of the cow, her reply, "nope,I no fear the cow o na only d horn I dey fear".

Mercy Johnson, one of the most sought after and (arguably) the highest paid actress in Nigeria plays the role of a bush-meat seller in an upcoming flick. If it's not Mercy Johnson, it can never be the same as Mercy Johnson. :)

Needless to say her expansive acting range has landed her over 100 unique and diverse movie roles such as a student, prostitute, hawker, doctor, street fighter, village girl to mention a few.

When a man is in Love! This is the first "unofficial" statement from Chris Attoh after news of his relationship with fast-rising beautiful actress, Damilola Adegbite filtered into the air. Kwame Mensah of the Tinsel series few hours ago posted this short but sweet message to his wife-to-be on his official Instagram page.

"Imagine waking up to a face like this everyday for the rest of your life, with a great personality to go with it. I'm truely blessed cus I wont have to imagine. Counting my blessing each day. Thank you all for all the congratulatory messages and the immense love you guys have sent our way."

Meanwhile the celebrity couple's wedding is holding next month- April 12!

This picture, tagged 'Best photo ever' taken by actor, Bradley Cooper and tweeted by American Television host and actress, Ellen DeGeneres who was the host of the just-concluded 2014 Oscars has broken a record on social networking site- Twitter.

Featuring Hollywood's top-notch actors; Brad Pitt, Julia Roberts, Angelina Jolie, Channing Tatum, Meryl Streep, Kevin Spacey, Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Lawrence and Lupita Nyong'o. The star-studded picture set the record for most retweeted tweet of all-time. The tweet got 1,300,000 retweets in less than an hour and over 2.6 million retweets beating the 778,000 most retweets previously set by America's President Barack Obama.

Twitter confirmed this via a notification.
"The envelope please...to @TheEllenShow - this is now the most re-tweeted Tweet with over 1 million RTs. Congrats!"

The other day, fans criticized the likes of Mercy Johnson and Funke Akindele on social media for acting as students in roles, many opined that there should be room for the young generation to showcase their talents. Noted! I hope they won't go ballistic when they see these "grandparents" in school uniforms. The yet-to-be released movie is titled " Mama Ukwu Goes to School". Don't know much about the movie but judging by the pictures and the (usual) roles of the actors; Chiwetalu Agu would be a big. bully, if not expelled from school. Ngozi Ezeonu on the other hand an easy-going, naive lady.

Few weeks ago, I posted pictures of CAF award nominees/Nigerian midfielder and top actress, Genevieve Nnaji heading into a private jet in South Africa and I remember I stated that it's either a TV commercial or they were on set of a high-budget film. Well, it's a film.

Titled, "The Journey" and sponsored by Amstel Malta, The movie which centres on the challenges and success stories of the two Nigerian superstars will premiere at the Africa Magic Viewers' Choice Awards on the 8th of March, 2014.

Someone should tell me this is a big Yes! *winks*winks*. Love is indeed a beautiful thing. Sources in the know have claimed that the relationship between budding thespians and ex Tinsel series sweethearts, Chris Attoh and Damilola Adegbite is about leading to the altar. And a grand wedding has reportedly been slated for April 12, 2014.

When love takes over, you certainly can't deny! Fair-skinned actress, Toyin Aimakhu -Johnson shared these romantic pictures few hours after throwing a sweet birthday shout out to her hubby Niyi Johnson. Who doesn't love these pictures? Their matching outfits, poise and all :).

"Happy Birthday Mr Johnson, My Hubby, My Boo, paddy of life, heartbeat, daddy Seun, My small god and my joy...till death do us part...no no we live and die together". She wrote.

May their marriage continue to be rock-solid!
