Manchester City forward, Kelechi Iheanacho’s strike at the 42nd minute of the World Cup Qualifier involving Super Eagles and Zambia on Sunday afternoon saw him break the record for goals in consecutive games. The 20 year-old found the net for the fourth straight game in the Super Eagles 2-1, beating records set by Rashidi Yekini and Samson Siasia, who both scored in three consecutive matches for the Super Eagles.

The CAF Most Promising Talent Of The Year registered his name in the score sheets during his first two games for Nigeria,  1-0 win over Mali in May, as well as against Luxembourg, Tanzania and Zambia.

While Yekini netted scored in three consecutive games at the 1990 African Nations Cup, against Egypt, Ivory Coast and Zambia, former Eagles coach Siasia scored against Benin Republic in an AFCON qualifier in 1991 as well as against Burkina Faso and Senegal.

CSKA Moscow winger, Ahmed Musa has described his appointment as Super Eagles captain by former coach Sunday Oliseh as a mixup. He added that the armband should have been handed to Mikel Obi who happens to be the team's longest serving player.

Coach of the Super Eagles of Nigeria, Samson Siasia today named the Chelsea midfielder as the captain of the team after informing both players about his decision on Wednesday night. Musa will now be his assistant.

“Mikel is the oldest serving player in the team and it is the right thing for him to have the armband. This is just to correct what was done in the past.

“The most important thing for us right now is to concentrate on the two games in front of us and make sure that we beat Egypt and qualify for the African Nations Cup.” Musa said.

"I thank coach Siasia for giving me the chance to lead the team. I know exactly what he demands and I promise not to let him down." 28 year-old Mikel vowed. Meanwhile he will be presented with a special Nigeria Pitch Award on Friday, for the highest number of caps in the Super Eagles' camp.

12 days after Mrs Ogere Siasia, the mother of Nigeria U23 coach Samson Siasia was abducted by unknown gunmen in Bayelsa State, the 72 year-old has been released. She regained her freedom around 10:30 pm last night after the sum of N600, 000 was paid. The amount her abductors initially requested for was N150 million, it was brought down to N50 million then N32 million before they agreed to take N600,000.

“I sincerely thank the Nigeria Police and the DSS (Department of State Services) for their efforts in ensuring that Mama was finally released by her captors. My elder brother Samson Siasia was very happy to receive the news of Mama’s release and I think this will help a great deal in Samson’s concentration to the task ahead.”
The coach's sibling, Dennis Siasia disclosed to goal.com.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) are yet to get in touch with the family of Nigeria Under 23 team coach, Samson Siasia, who was kidnapped 10 days ago, Dennis Siasia, a sibling to the ex-Nigeria international has claimed . Their matriarch, Mrs Ogere Siasia, was abducted at their family house in Bayelsa and whisked away on a motorcycle over a week ago, albeit the governing body made an appeal to the gunmen to free the 72 year-old, Dennis said, the NFF hasn’t contacted the family since the incident occurred.

The family who is yet to meet up with the outrageous demands of the kidnappers have also appealed to the Federal Government to track the kidnappers down and rescue their aged mother.

Dennis told NationSport, “It is disheartening that the NFF has not deemed it fit to get in touch with the family since the incident happened last week. They were only talking to Samson, who is far away in Gambia for national assignment, and, for us, we think this is not the appropriate thing to do as this might distract the coach from doing his job. For now, it is only the family they are supposed to have contacted because the coach is not here and they just need to leave him to focus on his duty because if the team fails to qualify they will blame him.

“The last time we spoke to the kidnappers was on Saturday, when they said they would bury Mama if we failed to meet their demand and we told them that we don’t have the kind of money they are requesting for as we were only able to raise N600, 000, from their voice, they were angry. As at this morning (Tuesday) they have not called and we have not heard from them. Although we spoke to Mama and I think she is okay.”

He also commended the efforts of the Bayelsa State Commissioner of Police and the Director of the Directorate of State Security (DSS).

“I must tell you that the CP and DSS Director have been working with the family on this and this has been how far we had gone. I must let them realize that Samson has served this country as a player, and now he is a coach on national assignment in Gambia and I don’t think he needs any distraction for now in Gambia.”

The latest development (as at this morning) is that the kidnappers have reduced the ransom to N32m.

Siasia disappointed after the Nation's Cup ouster

The mother of Nigeria's U-23 team manager, has been reportedly kidnapped by gunmen.  According to Vanguard, the assailants stormed the family residence of the ex international at Odoni community of  Sagama Local Council Area of Bayelsa State and took his mother on a motorcycle in the early hours of today.
“Right now I am confused, from the story I got, three men on motorbike stormed my parents’ house in my village Odoni in Bayelsa State, shot sporadically into the air before taking my old mother away on a bike.
“What do they expect from me? I don’t have money, I am right now on national duty, and need all the time to concentrate on this very important national task. So, I beg them to please release my mother so that I can concentrate on this task of qualifying the U-23 National Team for the men’s football event of the Rio Olympics.” The distressed coach said.
“This is quite disturbing. We are just preparing for a crucial 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying match, and the U-23 boys are already in The Gambia for a pre-Cup of Nationstraining camp. Why this?
“All we can do is to appeal to the kidnappers to free Samson Siasia’s aged mother. Samson is on a critical national assignment presently and the last he needs is this kind of distraction,” Said Pinnick. As at the time of this report, it was revealed that the kidnappers are yet to demand ransom from the family."  NFF president, Amaju Pinnick wrote on its website.

Ivory Coast international football player, Yaya Toure who was recently nominated for the 2015 Ballon d'Or award is not impressed with the fact that he is the only African player to make the shortlist. He mentioned that only few African footballers are always recognised for top awards because others lack the hunger for success. Speaking recently with France Football, the 4-time African footballer of the year said

"I admit that I see too many of them acting casually. You'd say that they're not always very hungry. Not hungry enough, for my taste. They're not conscious enough of the effort required to get to the very top. Of course it can go quite quickly at the start. Too quickly, without a doubt. But when it comes to climbing the final steps to get to the very top with Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo, there's no longer anyone left.

"They let themselves go too quickly sometimes. They're in their world. They think they've arrived — the most beautiful, the strongest — but they don't understand that there are other steps to climb to get to the top. Unfortunately a lot of them only see the good side in this job: easy money, girls, nights out, nice cars, nice clothes. They abandon the idea of catching the best too quickly. They don't always know how to suffer."

Sharing the Ivorian's point of view, ex Nigeria international Samson Siasia identified indiscipline as one of the problems of most African players. He added that they are more concerned about fashion trends than improving on their careers.

He told Ultimate FM in Kumasi, Ghana, "It's a very myopic mind that the African players have. When you reach a certain stage, you have to continue to improve like the Messis and Ronaldos. But the African player doesn't want to do that."

"They think they've seen and done it all. They come back home with earrings and Balotelli-like hairstyles and not disciplined anymore. They forget they are at a stage where they need to continue to improve."

He also questioned their attitude towards national team call ups.
"Look at the European and South American players. Right from U-17, Messi has continued to improve. When they're called they are the first ones to turn up. With African players, you ask them to report on Monday, they report on Wednesday. If your national team made you, then you need to repay your country."

A brace from Junior Ajayi in the second half gave the Nigeria U23 victory against Congo U23 in the first leg of African U23 championship qualifiers. The first half ended goalless with the dream team coming close on a number of occasions but failing to convert their chances.
Junior Ajayi, however, ensured that the dream team travels to Congo for the second leg with a home win advantage by getting two goals that sealed the win.

Coach of the team, Samson Siasia while addressing Journalists after the game praised the fans and stated his team still needs to work hard in order to get qualification ticket.
"My boys worked hard on the pitch and every one played very well. But sincerely speaking I think the game is still open. So we need to work hard before the second leg and go to Congo in search of victory," Siasia said.

"The Port Harcourt fans did very well to support the team. They came out in large numbers and their presence boosted the team and we are most grateful to the Governor of the state and the people of Rivers State for their massive support to the team. We will go back home and enjoy this victory and focus on the next game."

Coach of the Nigeria U23 side, Samson Siasia has expressed confidence ahead of the all-important clash with Congo U23 team in Port Harcourt on Sunday. The winner of the clash will seal a place in the 2015 edition of the African U23 championship which serves as Olympic
qualifiers for Rio 2016.

"I am very confident that Nigerians who will troop out en masse to see our match on Sunday will see one of the best displays ever by the Dream Team," Siasia told the media at the Hotel Presidential abode of the team.

"As a team, my boys have always created chances, but our greatest problem has been to convert these chances to goals. We have been doing a lot of work in this critical area and if what I have seen in training of recent is anything to go by, then I can assure Nigerians that these boys will make them proud by scoring enough goals against the Congolese come Sunday," he concluded.

Nigeria's dream team VI was drawn in what has already been tagged the 'group of death' for the fast approaching All Africa Games.
Samson Siasia's team was drawn in Group B where they will be facing two-time champions Egypt, Ghana and Senegal.

The draws took place yesterday at the CAF headquarters in Cairo, Egypt with General Secretary of CAF, Hicham El Amrani in charge.
While reacting to the draws, the coach of the team, Samson Siasia dismissed any notion of fear and emphasises on continual hardwork.

"we have been zoned in a difficult group but if you want to emerge champion of any tournament, you can't avoid the strong teams in the competition" Siasia said.
The All Africa Games is scheduled to hold between September 3-18 in Congo Brazzaville.

Choi! He must have read some nasty comments online. Nigeria U-23 coach Samson Siasia has set the records straight concerning his marriage anniversary which he celebrated a week ago.

Contrary to reports that the 47 year-old ex Super Eagles player got married to his wife Cassandra in 1985, he actually celebrated his 27th marriage anniversary and not 30th. Meaning he got married at the age of 20 and not 17.

He added that the organisers of the marriage anniversary party who were friends and back-
room staff of the U-23 National Team made a mistake on the cake. I
(you people gave the cake football age too. Hian!)

Newly-appointed Super Eagles Technical Director, Shuaibu Amodu has implored the senior national team coach, Stephen Keshi to leave his job following his failure to qualify the team for the 2015 African Nations Cup.

The former Super Eagles coach stated that Keshi has failed in his duty as a coach and did not deserve a second chance. He added that he should follow the footsteps of U-23 coach, Samson Siasia who left his job after he faced a similar situation few years ago.

"We must be very careful as we address the Stephen Keshi issue. As a colleague, I sympathize with his situation in two ways. For those who were there when I was called up from the technical department to come and complete the remaining two AFCON qualifiers, I said that if I had my way, I would have said he be allowed to finish the assignment so that we would be in a better position to assess him.
"In between that, if I had to go in and take the task because I had no choice then as it were, and I had succeeded with the team, it would have been good, but he too would have boasted that he could have also qualified the team if they had allowed him. Also if I had failed, I would go down and all that I have achieved on my career would probably had gotten a question mark. I was happy when the issues began to turn around later as if it was how I wanted it to be and he was allowed to complete the job.
"Now that is over, I think you guys are in a better position to assess him because as a coach, you are as good as your last game. At that time, I reckoned that if I had taken the job and failed, it would affect my reputation. I think any professional coach would assume the same position. He alone will decide whether he still has the reputation or not. If you still have the reputation, you leave, if you do not, you stay like a beggar.

"In my opinion, he has failed and should go. To keep him is to set a bad precedence. When Siasia failed with the Super Eagles, the whole country told him
told him to go and Jonathan could not save him. If we want to live on those standards, then he has failed and should go because what is sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander. The situation as it is today, if I were Keshi, I would say sorry, I have failed this time around. I can try another time, so let another person take over." He concluded.

Newly-appointed U23 Eagles coach, Samson Siasia has thanked Nigerians and his fans for supporting his return to the Eagles. He also promised to build a very strong team.

"I just want to thank God for the opportunity to serve this country again, and I will do the best I can to form a very, very strong team that Nigerians will be very proud of. Only God knows why he brought me where I am, and I'm very grateful," he said.

He wanted his job back, now he has a new role. Three years after he was sacked as Eagles coach for failing to qualify the country to the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations, Samson Siasia has been appointed as Nigeria's U23 team coach.

"The Committee also appointed Mr. Samson Siasia as the new Head Coach of the U-23 Men's Team. He will be assisted by Fatai Amoo, while the Technical and Development will recommend the other members of the crew," said a communiqué signed by executive committee member Suleiman Yahaya-Kwande.

Ex Super Eagles coach, Samson Siasia has rated Nigerian midfielder, Mikel Obi's performances in most competitions as dismal. He also noted that speaking to Mikel on the need to step up his game could prove a little difficult as he isn't open to criticisms.

"Someone would have to talk to him. But to talk to Mikel, you have to be ready for your own beating. From what we have seen and what people are saying, they don't think he is giving his best. But he should be able to criticise himself."

He continued, "He should do a self-critique. If he believes he is not doing well, he has to try and up his game. He has been watching the games from the World Cup, if he thinks he is not doing well, why is he not scoring, he has to be able to look at those videos and see the areas he needs to improve on.

"Nobody has to tell him. He is a professional. So, I am not going to criticise him. He has done well for this country, but if he is not doing well like he used to, then something has to be done."

On whether Mikel should be a defensive or attacking midfielder, Siasia admitted that he's confused.

"I am actually confused on that one, I don't know anymore. As a defensive midfield player, it doesn't mean you should not go forward or try to take some shots at goal. Nemanja Matic is doing it; Ramires is doing it, so how come Mikel is not doing it? Why can't he cover the box-to-box play? If you don't get into the box, you can never shoot at goal. So, that is his problem." He added
