Nigerian Human Rights Activist, Josephine Okei-Odumakin needs no introduction. The courageous Founder, Women Arise for Change and President of Campaign for Democracy who has in the last two decades been advocating for human rights, womens equality, and social progress in Nigeria has been recognized and honoured by the United States of America.

Her International Women of Courage Award was presented by the First Lady of the , Michelle Obama, and Secretary of state, John Kerry at a recent ceremony in the US.


Other recipients include Malalai Bahaduri, First Sergeant, Afghan National Interdiction Unit (Afghanistan); Samira Ibrahim, Coordinator, Know Your Rights (Egypt); Julieta Castellanos, Rector, National Autonomous University of Honduras (Honduras); and Elena Milashina, journalist, human rights activist (Russia), Fartuun Adan, Executive Director, Elman Peace and Human Rights Centre (Somalia) and a host of others.
