Former Real Madrid player, Angel Di Maria has claimed that the Spanish club sold him to Manchester United last year to cover the signings of Toni Kroos and James Rodriguez, who cost £20m and £63m respectively. Recall that the Argentine moved to Old Trafford for a record fee of £59.7m in August 2014.

He told Guardian in a recent interview that contrary to reports that he was lured with a bigger pay package to England, the 27 year-old who later joined PSG for £44.3m said he didn't leave for the money.

"They wanted to cover the costs of the great players they had signed that summer. I didn't leave for money. I wanted to see if I could renew and they didn't want me to. They wanted to cover the costs of the great players they had signed that summer. I had to leave by the back door. It wasn't how I would have wanted." He revealed.

Former Manchester United winger, Angel Di Maria has revealed some of the reasons he left the English club barely after a year he joined from Real Madrid for £59.7million. The ex Benfica player who switched to PSG in the summer claimed that his unsettled family was the main reason he moved to France.

He was quoted by the Mirror UK thus:

"Honestly, we were not happy. At the beginning, we were a little. But then things became complicated. Life in England was a bit difficult. It is not easy for a South American. Some people get on fine, and for others it is harder to adapt."‎

He also stressed that his strained relationship with Van Gaal and the burglary incident in his house prompted his decision to leave.

"I didn't have a great relationship with the coach, so I think the decision to join Paris was the best solution. After the break-in it wasn't reasonable to stay. My family wasn't happy. My daughter was suffering. So it was important to leave. From the little I have seen, our life here in France resembles more the life we led in Spain or Portugal. And at the moment we are 100 percent satisfied."

PSG midfielder, Angel Di Maria has written an open, apology letter to his Manchester United fans for leaving the club less than a year he moved to England. During his unveiling yesterday 6th August, 2015, the Argentine star who joined the French club for a fee of around £44m revealed that things did not turn out well for him at Old Trafford and that the decision to join PSG was between the three parties.

His open letter read:

"To Manchester United:

"I write this note to thank all the Manchester United family for the great support received during the year I've been part of this Club.

"When Manchester United chose me as part of their team I felt extremely honoured because I knew what this Club means and how it trusted me. Nevertheless, I'm aware things didn't work as we all expected and believe me, I feel really sorry about it. However in the career of a football player sometimes the unexpected and unwanted may happen.

"I can guarantee you it was not for trying. I did my best but football is not like maths: often a lot of things out of our control affect the way we feel and the way things turn out. I am sorry it did not work out as I would have wished in this amazing huge club.

"I want to give special thanks to all the Directors and Management of Manchester United as well as to every member of the staff and colleagues as they gave me all their support. Also a special mention to all the fans who always trusted me and showed me their respect and love.

"Now is time to move to PSG, but the Glorious Manchester United Club will be forever in my memory!

"Wish you all the best in the world.

"With best regards, Angel Di Maria."

Most of you can probably still remember the exact moment you heard Ángel Di María had signed for Manchester United.

To the amazement of the footballing world Ángel Di María, Real Madrid and Argentina superstar had signed for a club not playing in the Champions League this season.

Wow. Such is their pull and financial muscle that the Old Trafford giants had lured the Man of the Match from last season's Champions League final to make the move to the Premier League. He was the engine that drove the Galacticos to La Decima, at long last.

Behind all of Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale's brilliance was the Argentine, whose move into central midfield led to seven goals and 22 assists in La Liga and the Champions League (the most assists in any top division in Europe).

His signing was a game changer, a seismic shift in the power struggle amongst the world's most lucrative domestic competition. It was the beginning of a bright new era for United, with Di María anointed Luis Suarez's successor as "the guy" in the Premier League. It's not panned out exactly like that quite yet.

But you can see now why expectations were so high. After a fast start at the club Di María hit the ground running, capped off by a sensational chipped finish away to Leicester.

Injury curtailed his bright start, and inconsistency on the whole can define the rest of his time in Manchester thus far. Perhaps its expectations, maybe it's just merely frustration.

And hey whose easier to get mad at besides the club's manager than their star man and record signing. Seems fair to some. But it isn't, despite understandable struggles and injury woes which have led to some concern.

But when he is gliding past defenders with ease all those concerns go away. There's not many better in world football picking the ball up and running from deep at speed.

His best position at the club is yet to be determined (but is certainly open to debate) though there's no denying when he picks up the ball with space to move he can be devastating.

He hasn't hit the heights some have expected and we're not dodging that here, but surely some adjustment time is allowed? There was some struggle after returning from injury in the Christmas period, but he was excellent against Burnley and very good against Swansea registering an assist in both games.

Players traditionally struggle or require an adjustment period when moving leagues. It's true that some never adjust and fail to make the grade, particularly in the physical nature of the Premier League.

But Ángel Di María is not just some player. He's a world-class talent simply too good to just go quietly into the night. Cristiano Ronaldo, Mesut Özil and Eden Hazard all initially struggled with their slim frames upon their initial encounters into the English game. Upon becoming leaner and stronger, they've all left their mark in England.

Di María is part of this class of player who can do that. With such short memories nowadays, some remember only what happened last week in the football.

Despite his inconsistency, Di María is second in the league with eight assists. He's scored four goals, equalling last season's total in Madrid.

His WhoScored rating is higher than players receiving plaudits this season such as Christian Eriksen or Philippe Coutinho. It's also higher than Gylfi Sigurðsson, Wilfried Bony and Samir Nasri's, players considered to be having fine seasons.

So despite all the criticism of the Argentine, he's still managed to concoct many moments of brilliance. So chill out everyone. Please be patient, it's only been six months.

Without European football to tide us over and keep us distracted the time between games can be very long for fans, particularly when the team hasn't played well the last time out.

But Louis van Gaal needs your support and the players need your support. Even superstars like Ángel Di María need the backing of their fans. With the club's toughest and most important stretch of the season coming up, get behind your players and your club. Your faith might just pay off.

So Angel di Maria's reason for leaving his former club, Real Madrid was all about more bucks. Speaking on the Argentine's exit, Real Madrid manager, Carlo Ancelotti confirmed that he left for Manchester United when the club could not meet his huge pay-packet demands.

The former Chelsea manager told Cadena COPE, "Di Maria? I was in agreement with the club. There are times when the club needs to say no. You can't change the policies of the club for one player. Di Maria asked for a lot of money and preferred to leave to go find it.  The club couldn't give him the money he wanted.  They say that I'm the manager of the club; of course, I coach for the club, not for the players."

Di Maria joined The Red Devils few months back on a British record of £59.7million after a four-year stay at Santiago Bernabeu.
