Arjen Robben has been made captain of the Netherlands in Danny Blind's first squad since taking over from Guus Hiddink as national coach, replacing striker Robin Van Persie. Blind said on Friday he needs a captain with more "on-field presence" as his team heads into two crucial European

Championship qualifiers against Group A leader Iceland and Turkey.

"I have not made this choice based on their soccer skills," Blind told the Dutch federation's website.

"In the guidance and coaching of teammates Van Persie and Robben are not inferior to each other -- but they are two different personalities and right now I need a leader with [Robben's] on-field presence."

Robben said: "I consider it a great honour that the coach has asked me to be captain and will fulfil this role with great pride and responsibility. "But I also want to emphasise that we should do it right, all together. We have a common goal -- to make the European Championships."

Van Persie said he understood Blind's decision.

"I have had a good talk with the coach, who indicated his understanding to choose his own captain in this new project," the Fenerbahce striker said.

"I've always said Arjen, I and the other guys did it together. I will fill the role of vice-captain with pride. I will always give everything for my country."

Manchester United star, ‎Robin Van Persie has reacted to a statement made by his boss, Louis Van Gaal as regards his late equalizer celebration during the Red Devils' clash with Chelsea on Sunday.

Earlier this week, Manchester United boss labelled the 31-year-old's reaction after netting the goal, stupid and not so smart.

"You have seen he did a stupid reaction after the goal. You can be excited, but you don't have to pull of your shirt as you know it is a yellow card. It is not so smart."

RVP admitted that he was so carried away with the goal that he forgot about the rules.

"I know it's one of the rules that you have to keep your shirt on, but sometimes you forget and everything comes together and the whole place explodes.
"It was one of those fantastic moments and the main thing is that we got something out of this game because we deserved it.
"It was a big relief for the fans, for the players and for everyone at Manchester United that we got the goal in the end. The whole stadium exploded and it gave us a big boost."

You've heard and read it all. The pictures are here. Robin Van Persie signs the dotted lines with his new coach, Sir Alex Ferguson and then trains with his new colleague, Wayne Rooney.

What do you think of the duo? The Red Devil's attacking force this new season will be seismic right?

Meanwhile RVP makes his debut for the club in a game between Manchester United and Everton on Monday. Watch out for Jersey number 31.

How does that sound? The same Van Persie who has been putting up spectacular performances this season not a real striker?
Once considered to be the best player on the pitch, Legendary Dutchman Wim Van Hanegem strongly believes 28year-old Robin Van Persie is not a real No.9.

"Van Persie is one of the stars of the Premier League, scores loads of goals, and Arsenal completely depend on him. However, I don't think he's a real striker.

"He has been turned into a striker at Arsenal and he often stays high up the pitch for them. However, he always drops deeper in Oranje because it takes longer before he gets the ball in the national team than at Arsenal.

"That makes him less efficient and that's why he shouldn't play up front for Oranje. I'd like to see Huntelaar as striker, with Van Persie behind him and Robben from the right. We can pretty much leave the left wing unoccupied."

Whereas Ray Parlour (Arsenal Legend) believes RVP's absence in Arsenal will ruin the club.

This Van man shouldn't say this in a viewing center, he might be lynched. Some football fans often go haywire over such statements, trust me, the first thing they'll trace is his achievements.....before raining all sorts

Notwitstanding, we are entitled to our opinions.

Speaking briefly after AC milan's victory over Arsenal, Sweden international, Zlatan Ibrahimovic has urged Robin van Persie to leave Arsenal inorder to win more trophies. He maintained that the 28 year-old will make much impact if he transfers to another club, "For sure, Van Persie will do a fantastic job wherever he goes, and he will be a big player for whichever team he joins. But of course, if your team doesn't win for a couple of years, inside yourself you still want to win. And if you don't want that then I will never have you on my team, trust me!"

And on the game which saw him scoring a penalty and assisting two more goals, the lanky footballer said "it wasn't easy, everybody says it was easy because it was 4-0. Afterwards people said they hadn't expected it to be so easy, but if you go through the game it wasn't easy even if it was 4-0". He claimed

As part of plans to bind Arsenal captain, Robin van Persie to the club for a long term, Arsenal football club has shown interest in his son Shaqueel.
The five year old boy who plays football and golf for a team close to the Van Persie family home have been asked to join the youth training camp.
"I honestly have to say that he [Shaqueel] has got a lot of talent for football, I recognise a lot of stuff of myself in him. His coach is really great. Arsenal has invited him a couple of times to come and play there but he likes it at his club. He's sensitive for a good atmosphere. Just like me.
"He loves to play golf. He's taking lessons and we regularly play a round. Sometimes he beats me! He's got a great gift for where the ball has to go. My shots sometimes end up in the bush; his always go straight." Van Persie affirmed.
